A great day at Business Buzz Hemel Hempstead business networking today, at the Olde Kings Arms in Hemel Hempstead High Street, talking to people about measuring the search terms they are being listed for on Google, their average rankings positions in the search results, via Google Webmaster Tools.  Great to see Mark Mogose from Connect IT Telecommunications, Judy from My Mustard, Janice O’Neil the host, and others.

We also celebrated five years of Business Buzz Hemel, with a 5th birthday cake.

You can also set them different levels of access, so some can publish, while others can only write content that requires you to moderate by marking it as okay prior to it being published, and others still can have access to do the job of moderators.

What Search Terms are People Using to Find You? Use The Google Keyword Planner Tool!

Boost your SEO effectiveness and relevance with insider information!

As the saying goes, “give the people what they want!”.  When you are wondering – or assuming – what word or phrase to use to get people to find you in Google it’s time to put the guesswork down and have Google actually tell you.  How?  It’s a free service they provide called The Google Keyword Planner Tool.

Google will also tell you how many times each month people are searching for those phrases in your town – and list them for you in order of popularity.

  1. Click here for The Google Keyword Planner Tool.
  2. You may first have to create a free account – do so, so many other free tools are covered by these accounts.
  3. Sign in.
  4. Click on ‘Search for new keywords using a phrase, website or category.
  5. Type in a word or phrase for your product service.
  6. In the ‘Targeting’, select your town.  I recommend using a big nearby town, for example I use London rather than Hemel Hempstead – or you can do both and see!
  7. Click ‘Get Ideas’.
  8. Then you’ll have your results come up in two tabs – you want the ‘Keyword ideas’ tab.
  9. If you want to see the results in order of popularity (recommended), click on ‘Avg. monthly searches’.

You can also then download the list report as an Excel file if you like.

Get The Benefit of Your Own Valuable Content on Your Own Site

Google likes;

  1. New content
  2. and frequently updated websites

And yet everyone on the planet gives all of their valuable content to Facebook and Twitter.  And they think they can’t update their own website with a blog because they haven’t got time to write 400+ words.

Valuable Social Media ContentThere’s a very simple way to get the benefit of your social media-sized posts for your own website.

Simply create a new category in WordPress, use that for ‘small sized’ posts or tips, just as you would share quick posts on social media, and have those all be listed on the same, new page of your website.

Here’s a perfect example of a ‘Social Media’ style ‘tips’ page we did for Spirit of the Old Town.

These are all their Facebook posts, and so zero extra time is required to draft these – you’re just copying and pasting the text you already have.

Furthermore, each new post creates a new page/URL of your website.

Google loves to see both new content and frequently updated websites, so you’re ahead on both fronts!

If Google, when it visits your website every couple of weeks, sees no change for six months how can it trust that it would be sending its customers to an active website?  Answer, it can’t – it has no way of knowing if your business is dormant!  So if it can’t be sure it won’t send you guests.

Google isn’t looking for masterpieces of the written word, it just wants to see signs of life.

And there’s an even further way to leverage your content into new pages, if you add Tags to your posts in WordPress – like hashtags on social media, each of these tag words/phrases create yet another new page for your site, grouping together all of your posts tagged with that word/phrase.  These new tag pages are created automatically in WordPress!

Get A Free Official Version of Adobe Photoshop CS2

If you don’t already have it, I recommend taking this opportunity to download an official free copy of Photoshop from Adobe.

  1. First create a free Adobe account to access the page.
  2. Scroll down and open the ‘English’ tab.
  3. You want ‘Photoshop CS2’ which is second from the bottom.
  4. Choose either the Mac or Windows options, click on it to download it.
  5. Write down or type the Serial Number next to the Mac/Windows option you want into a text file. You will need this later when you install.  The page is a bit quirky in that it won’t let you copy and paste this.

…it should be one of these; Mac – 1045-0410-5403-3188-5429-0639, Windows – 1045-1412-5685-1654-6343-1431.

It’s a version that they no longer support, hence why they are letting people download it for free, however, it is newer than the version I have been using for the last 11 years, which does everything, so is well worth getting.

Because Photoshop’s .psd files use separate layers – for such things as photographs, shapes, text, you can have a greater control over such things, so that when you share images on social media, for example, they can easily be professionally branded with your logo.

I’ve had the fortune to hear about, and use, a fantastic tech/IT Support company in Milton Keynes, called Superhero Support, so if you’re in the Bucks/West Herts area and ever need any help with your PCs, laptops or networks, this is for you.

I met the owner of the company, Peter Elton, at a networking event in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and I’m rather pleased I did as I had a need to reach for his business card this week and his service was both double-quick and proactive.

Peter fixed the problem I brought to him, and an additional bonus one I hadn’t planned on – an issue I’d been having with a disk drive, for which he created additional space for me.

I’m very pleased to have found his support and cannot recommend him enough.
